About IUMS Journals

Who we are

Iran University of Medical Sciences (IUMS) is a leading public medical university in Iran. Through its journal portfolio, IUMS publishes peer-reviewed research across medicine, nursing, rehabilitation, public health and related biomedical fields.

The IUMS journals are owned by the University and supported by the central office for journal policy, support and coordination. Individual journals are editorially independent, while sharing a common policy framework and infrastructure at the publisher level.

What we publish

The IUMS portfolio includes both English-language journals and Persian-language journals with extended English abstracts. Together, they cover general medicine, clinical specialties, basic sciences, neuroscience, rehabilitation, nursing and midwifery, public health, occupational health and health management.

Each journal defines its detailed aims, scope and article types on its own website. Authors are encouraged to review that information carefully before submitting.

Editorial independence, ethics & integrity

IUMS is committed to maintaining editorial independence and high standards of research integrity across all of its journals. Editorial decisions are based on the scientific merit, methodological quality and ethical acceptability of submissions, not on commercial, political or institutional considerations.

Portfolio-level policies describe our approach to authorship, peer review, research ethics, consent and privacy, generative AI, corrections and retractions, and how we respond to concerns about research or publication misconduct.

Open access, infrastructure & indexing

Many IUMS journals follow an open access model, in which articles are freely available to read worldwide immediately on publication. Some titles are supported by article processing charges (APCs) with clear information about waivers or discounts; others are funded by the University or sponsoring bodies.

To support long-term discoverability and reuse, the portfolio makes use of modern publishing infrastructure and standards:

• Persistent identifiers (DOIs) registered via Crossref for all research articles.
• ORCID support for authors and, where possible, editors and reviewers.
• Archiving and preservation arrangements described in the Archiving & indexer readiness policy.
• Indexing in national and international databases (for example, ISC, Scopus, PubMed and other subject indexes), depending on the journal.

How to work with IUMS Journals

For authors

Authors can use the Journals catalog to identify suitable titles and then follow the submission instructions on each journal’s website. The portfolio-wide author guidelines provide shared expectations on reporting quality, ethics and transparency.

For reviewers

Reviewers play a central role in maintaining quality across the portfolio. Guidance about confidentiality, constructive feedback, conflicts of interest and the use of generative AI is provided on the For reviewers page and in each journal’s invitations.

For editors & editorial boards

Editors-in-Chief, associate editors and board members across IUMS journals are supported by shared policies, training opportunities and practical guidance. Resources and expectations are outlined on the For editors page and in journal-specific documentation.
